Neither toros nor flamenco. Neither Fallas nor San Fermín. They are Spanish traditions, of course, but they aren’t the genuine one. It must take place al around the country and everybody has to support it. Moreover, it must be part of Spaniards life and be known worldwide.

Then, which is the genuine Spanish tradition? Without any doubt, it’s the “siesta”, the twenty to thirty minutes of nap Spaniards usually sleep after having lunch. It doesn’t matter if you are a child or an old person, from the north or the south, everybody can enjoy it. Siesta makes you recover energy to keep doing things the whole evening. Even doctors advise to do it because of its benefits in our health. For all that, I strongly believe the siesta is the oldest Spanish costume and the perfect thing we’ve created and exported.

An English person told me an idiom related to sleep some time ago. It says: “early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise”. I’ve thought about it and I’ve reached a conclusion: is Spaniards do a trick and have two doses of sleep, we must be very healthy, wealthy and wise, won’t we?
